A new high-voltage testing system has officially left Sansion Power's production facility.

This time, it is a 2400kV/240kJ Lightning Impulse Generator, built for a customer requiring advanced testing capabilities for 330kV power transformers.

After months of manufacturing, assembly, commissioning, and testing, the system successfully completed customer acceptance and has now started its journey to the project site.

Built for One of the Most Demanding Transformer Tests

Lightning impulse testing is a critical part of high-voltage transformer insulation verification.

For a 330kV transformer, the test system must generate high-energy impulse voltages with stable and accurately controlled waveforms. Even small deviations in system performance can affect the reliability and repeatability of the test.

That is why this project placed particular emphasis on system stability, impulse waveform accuracy, module matching, and insulation performance.

The result is a 2400kV/240kJ impulse generator designed to provide the high-energy impulse output required for demanding transformer insulation tests.

Every Module Matters

The production of a high-energy impulse generator is not simply a matter of assembling individual components.

For this project, Sansion Power's engineering team managed the complete manufacturing process, from component selection and capacitor module configuration to system assembly and control system commissioning.

Each capacitor module was individually checked and calibrated before being integrated into the complete system.

The team also carried out repeated checks of:

Impulse voltage → Discharge stability → Waveform characteristics → Insulation performance → System control

This step-by-step approach allowed potential issues to be identified and addressed before the equipment reached the final acceptance stage.

Months of Testing Before Shipment

The completed system went through progressive voltage testing and repeated impulse waveform verification.

Rather than moving directly from production to shipment, the equipment remained in the factory through multiple rounds of commissioning and performance checks.

The final acceptance was conducted remotely with the customer's engineering team through video inspection.

After all key functions and parameters were verified, the 2400kV Lightning Impulse Generator was cleared for delivery.

From Factory Floor to Transformer Testing Site

The equipment is now on its way to the customer's project site.

Once delivered, Sansion Power's technical engineers will provide on-site installation and commissioning support, followed by practical operation training and technical guidance.

The system will be used for 330kV transformer lightning impulse withstand testing, supporting the customer's transformer insulation evaluation, product development, and acceptance testing activities.
